Task 7

Feedback and evaluation

Throughout the process of my production and upon finalising my 3D environment, I have received much feedback from friends, family and my tutors. Everyone who has witnessed my production and observed my final product has been very impressed, not only at my dedication and commitment in putting so much time aside to complete this process, but I have received constant praise on the quality and creativeness of my final product.

I have received much praise though I have also received tips that could help me to improve my final product if I was to carry it on further. Some advice I got was to add characters to my environment, though I would like to, the purpose of this assignment was to create a 3D environment, so this was not necessary.

I received some feedback regarding things I was already aware of, such as the sky in my 3D environment and the lighting which is rather dull. The reason for this is I have yet to learn how to correctly create a sky asset, though I am currently looking into it more and it is something I will soon know how to do, though I think my 3D environment is still of a good quality without it and I am very happy with what I have produced.

The only things I would change about my process, would be to plan it out more, perhaps have more variation in my models and to implement a few more assets that I have yet to learn how to manipulate, though all of this would require more time and a full license for Lightwave Modeller for personal home use.

Considering my target audience, which is younger people and children, I think I have created a product that would suit their personal desires and I think my environment could be successfully turned into a game and I think with a good amount of time it could easily be manipulated to fit the needs for a small game.

Questionnaire analysis
Aside from verbal feedback, I decided to collate some primary research using SurveyMonkey to create a questionnaire regarding the standard and quality of my 3D environment, to help me identify any room for improvement as well as what people thought of it and if they thought it met the requirements of the target audience.

Below are the responses from my survey and my analysis of this feedback.

As you can see in the question to the left, out of the 15 total responses I received 60% of people agreed that they think my 3D environment meets the target audience of children, no one thought it did not meet the audience and 40% thought it met requirements of other target audiences as well. Receiving this feedback helped my in knowing whether I was meeting the requirements of my set target audience and I was happy to find that I have, also I was happy to discover that I was also meeting the requirements of other target audiences.

As you can see, in question two I asked for feedback on the overall quality of my environment, I was more than happy to see that no one thought it was of a poor quality, and the majority, 53.33% thought the quality way "very good" and 46.67% thought the  quality was "good". I am very happy to receive this kind of feedback, as it makes me happy that I have made  a product that people like and of a good quality
In my third question I asked what the person in questions' most preferred asset of the environment was, I was very pleased to discover that the majority, 46.67% of the feedback I received, was in favour of the 3D models. I would probably not have received this type of feedback if I did not recently update my models when deciding to create extra assets in Blender, so I am extremely happy to see that it made a good impact on my overall feedback.

Some other useful feedback and the most disliked part of my environment was also very helpful, I learnt that the most disliked part of the environment was the fact that there was no playable character, 46.67% of people disliked this, 40% of people disliked the fact that there was not much to do within the environment and only 13.33% of people disliked the lack of sound. Realistically I would like to amend all of these dislikes, though it would take a lot more time than I have, and I need to learn new methods and tools within the appropriate programs.

I received some useful feedback in question five, as I learnt that the most sought after improvement for my environment was variation in my models as 53.33% of people stated that this should most importantly be improved, 33.33% think the balance in the quality of the models should most importantly be improved and 13.33% of people thought that the texturing quality should mos importantly be improved. I can see why the majority of people think the most important thing that should be improved is the variation in models, as they are quite repeated, if I had a substantial amount of extra time, I would create a lot more varied models for this environment.

Below is some extra comments I received from the people who answered my questionnaire that also are very useful in assessing the quality of my overall environment

  good

Like it :)
really good

pretty good :P

cool

Very good, though would be better with a playable character :)

really good

Like it

I realy like it but it could be a lot bigger :D

Really good!!!

Pretty good, maybe with more time extra stuff could be added? :)

You shouldn't change much, but maybe add a player character.
