Task 2

Environment Idea’s
Cute Environment

  • A cute looking environment similar to a fantastical Japanese type world, appearing very cute and appealing with teddy bears scattered around the environment suggesting the presence of teddy bear characters.
  • Models made in Lightwave Modeller
  • Environment will be showcased in the UDK engine
  • Bright cushiony textures made in Photoshop
  • This environment will consist of very cute model and texture assets that will build up to create an overall cute looking environment that will appeal to younger children and creative adults.

Concept drawings
Below is a concept drawing I have created for my cute environment idea. As you can see I have experimented with the layout of the environment that I will be creating and the colours that I will implement into my environment. I have chosen relatively bright colours, that are quite child friendly and appealing. These particular colours are not harsh on the eye and represent the "cute" theme I would be going for when creating this particular environment.

Below is a concept drawing I have created featuring two buildings that I would feature in this particular environment style. As you can see, they are very "cute" and childish looking, they are not over detailed and feature very appealing and upbeat looking colours, that would fit in well with this particular environment style.

These particular building drawings, are of a hospital building and a general house building that I would model in 3D using Lightwave Modeller.

I would create these particular models by using primitive shapes, particularly cube shapes that I would merge together and manipulate to create 3D models replicating the drawings you can see below. I am confident in my 3D modelling ability and I believe I can easily bring these concept ideas to life.

Mind map

Below is a mind map I have created for my cute environment idea. I would refer to this mind map when creating individual assets for my environment, such as the 3D models and textures.

Mood board
Below is a mood board for my cute environment idea. I conducted brief research into various areas relevant to the "cute" theme idea and I managed to find many images that I can easily refer to at a later stage, if I choose to go through with this particular ideas.

In this mood board you can see various 3D models and images that would be considered cute, mainly featuring bears.

The reason I have chosen bears to inspire this particular idea, is because when I think of the word cute, the first thing that comes to my mind is bears. I am familiar with many different forms of media that revolve around the concept of bears, such as the game Naughty Bear and the extremely popular TV series, Care Bears. When creating this 3D environment, I would refer to these particular forms of media, to inspire me in the creation of my environment and the 3D models it will contain.

Creepy Environment
  • A creepy looking environment similar to a fantastical Bioshock, Left for Dead looking environment appearing very dark and unappealing.
  • Models made in Lightwave Modeller Environment will be showcased in the UDK edior
  • Dark horrific textures made in Photoshop
  • This environment will consist of very unattractive models that are quite off putting, that will help to convey a sense of past gruesome events that previously enfolded in the now abandoned environment.

Concept drawings
Below are two concept drawings of buildings I would refer to when modelling 3D assets if I was to develop my "creepy environment" idea. This particular idea would revolve around a quite spooky post-apocalyptic theme, buildings would be in poor and destroyed conditions, emitting a sense of fear, mystery and curiosity to what events have previously unfolded to leave these particular buildings in such a state.

The concept drawing directly below, is of quite a tall building that has been damaged overtime, segments of the infrastructure are missing and the overall condition of the building is poor. If the player was to enter this building when I would model it, they would come face to face with other creepy objects and rooms, some pitch black so the player would fear what might lie among the darkness.
Below is another concept art piece I have created for this particular idea. As you can see below, the concept art I have created features 2 buildings which have obvious signs of damage and chaos and I would model them accordingly in 3D. You can also see that there is a small damaged garage drawing between the buildings, with a rough drawing of a car, these are both other examples of models I would create if I was to continue with this particular theme of environment.

Mind map
Below is a mind map that I have created, outlining the key aspects and assets of this particular environment idea. If I was to develop this idea further, I would refer to this mind map for information on aspects such as what colours I should feature within my environment and what programs I should use for the creation of individual assets.

Mood board
Below is a moodboard that I created that I would use fr inspiration if I took this idea further. As you can see, there are many images that I have gathered depicting various creepy styles that I could implement into my own 3D environment.
The various building styles you can see below are very similar to the concept art I have created, I would refer to this mood board when attempting to create effective poor conditioned and destroyed buildings.

SCI-FI Environment

  • A futuristic looking environment with similar aspects and appearances to games like Assassins Creed, Mirrors Edge and Halo
  • Models made in Lightwave Modeller
  • Environment will be showcased in the UDK editor
  • Metallic bright textures with futuristic models will be seen throughout
  • This environment will consist of bright and attractive futuristic models that will appear quite otherworldly and overall very clean looking.
Mind Map
Below is a Mind Map I have created relevant to my Sci-Fi environment idea. I have included information on aspects such as the pre-production stages I would take and what the them of this particular environment would be. If I was to develop this particular idea further, again I would refer to this mind map to retrieve key information to help my come up with my final product.

Moodboard
Below is a mood board I have created, outlining specific inspiration for this Sci-Fi environment idea. I have included images depicting various futuristic/Sci-Fi structures and environments, relevant to the type of environment I would create if I was to continue this particular idea. Many of the models featured in this mood board are of extremely high quality, though with my limited time to complete this project if I was to continue this idea it is quite unlikely that my models would not be of such a high quality.

Concept Drawings
Below is some Sci-fi concept art I have created. As you can see below I have created concept art for a futuristic building that I would model. You can see that I have used quite obscure shapes to create this particular building, it comes across very futuristic, this would be a very fun building to model in 3D. If I was to model this building and make it accessible by the player within my environment I would have to ensure that the contents is also relevant to this particular theme and I would also include animations within this building, such as automatic doors.

To the left is more concept art for my Sci-Fi idea. I have created some concept art relevant to this theme, depicting individual floating islands that would make up my environment, I feel that this would make for a very interesting exploration experience for the player and it is very relevant to the Sci-Fi theme.
If I was to create my environment in correlation to this particular concept art, I would also manipulate features of the UDK engine I will be using to create my chosen environment, to allow the player to fall without damage by creating a low sense of gravity, in which it would be easier for the player to jump to greater heights and distances, similar to how an astronaut walks on the moon.

Test environment/ideas generation project
Below is test footage for my cute environment idea. In this footage you can see the general layout that would make up this particular environment and you can roughly see the scale of it.
